October is gone and it went by so fast! We’ve been home, but busy and preoccupied. I’m glad I didn’t choose to do a theme for October, because I doubt we would have gotten to it anyway. We had three weeks back to back where our normal schedule was interrupted, mostly for good and enjoyable reasons.
The first week my husband was on fall break from school, so we had some extra family time. However, the second week Joey had a fever for a couple of days and then took a couple of more days to fully recover to his normal self. There was a lot of holding and snuggling, crying, and sleeping those days. And then, my father-in-law and brother-in-law came to visit for a week. Other than being sick, it’s been a fun week. Oh…and we’ve had quite a few rainy days (which felt like weeks) too. I think I’m going to have to come up with a rainy day activity box for sanity’s sake.
But we have been learning, in quite big ways actually. Joey began walking last month and is doing quite well! Here’s a video of his first few days:
Now, he’s even able to walk in the grass without a problem. Well…most of the time.
He also has a new fascination with Velcro. He’ll go into his cabinet, grab one of his cloth diapers, retreat to a corner and sit quietly unfastening and fastening the Velcro. Another new thing, well not so new but improved, is Joey’s doing really well matching lids to pots and different containers. Surprisingly well, actually.
Two funny work-related things: #1 – He won’t crumble the paper in the crushing paper activity. He’ll put it in the basket, but won’t crush it! He’ll rip other paper, but he’s being so gentle with this. #2 – He won’t stack the objects in the stacking work…he throws them. He throws everything now, but we’re working on that.
I am really excited about November’s theme: the farm & farm animals. I’ve been readying a few works, collecting books, and playing a visit to a pumpkin patch/petting zoo. This should be a fun month!
What are your plans for November?
By the way, I just wanted to say thanks to those of you who are reading and enjoying the blog. I really appreciate the comments and it’s nice to know that others are benefiting from what we’re doing at home too!
